About Ian Barringer
Ian Barringer has over three decades’ experience in law, finance and business. He focuses on creating practical solutions to complex business and investment problems, delivering results to clients quickly and efficiently.
Out of law school, Ian joined the New York law firm of Shearman & Sterling, now A&O Shearman, the third largest global law firm. The transactions he worked on included leveraged lending, workouts and mergers and acquisitions, and included a year in the firm’s Paris office.
Ian was recruited from Shearman to join an investment banking team, and spent four years doing equity and convertible bond underwriting as well as mergers and acquisitions. Clients included healthcare, real estate and technology companies. Ian then came to Colorado to join a hedge fund as head of operations and trading, and fell in love with the state; what he thought would be a two or three year assignment has led to 25 years in Colorado.
After leaving the fund, Ian turned to entrepreneurship, building his own registered investment advisory firm and then one of the largest cannabis testing laboratories in Colorado. He sat on a number of legislative and regulatory panels, helping to shape the laws and regulations governing Colorado’s legal cannabis industry. His more than a decade as CEO gives him insight into both the legal and operational issues facing entrepreneurs and heavily regulated businesses.
Ian has joined the Colorado bar and is now using his broad experience in giving legal advice to businesses, institutions and individual investors building or investing in companies.
When not working, Ian and his family take advantage of Colorado’s outdoors, hiking, biking and fly fishing.
